In Saturday’s action at the US Open, rising American star Coco Gauff claimed her first-ever Major title, defeating newly crowned world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling match that lasted two hours and six minutes. Gauff came from behind to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

During the match, Gauff served two aces, hit 12 winners, and won 62 percent of her first serve points. This victory brings her head-to-head record against Sabalenka to 4-2. Gauff’s successes this season also include titles in Washington, D.C., and Cincinnati.

As of Monday, the 19-year-old sensation will be ranked No. 3 in the world, while Sabalenka, who aimed to claim her second career Major title, will take the No. 1 spot.

Prior to this, Gauff had reached the finals of Roland Garros but lost to Iga Swiatek in 2022.

Now that the Grand Slam season has concluded, the WTA’s female players will focus on the upcoming 1000 level events in Guadalajara and China. They will then hope to qualify for the season-ending tournament in Cancun, Mexico.
